It's a magical word for children and teenagers: "summer vacation". Many start their vacation and need a lot of patience.

Schoolchildren in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are the first in Germany to start their long vacation. Until August 8, the main thing for them now is to relax and take a vacation. In Saxony alone, 526,400 pupils will receive their school reports this Friday. With the last day of school, many traffic routes and airports are likely to be very busy again.

According to Autobahn GmbH, a slight increase in traffic is already expected on Friday. The routes to the south (A7, A9) and to the North Sea and Baltic Sea (A7, A24) will be particularly affected by the traffic. The federal company expects the first major wave of travelers on the weekend of July 5 to 7, when other federal states such as Hesse, Lower Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate also start their summer vacations. The busiest day is expected to be Saturday, July 5.

At Leipzig/Halle Airport, the expected rush on the first vacation weekend is so high that Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG advises people to book parking spaces online early. A total of 32 flights will be taking off from Leipzig/Halle and 12 from Dresden to sunny destinations this weekend. Up to 24,500 passengers are expected at both airports.
