Mushroom lovers can now slowly find mushrooms in the meadows and forests of Saxony. Although the peak season is not until the fall, mushrooms are already there, according to a survey of mushroom experts.
"The situation is good, but not yet very good," reported Sieglinde Köhler, a mushroom consultant from Central Saxony. In her region, porcini mushrooms, red caps, pearl mushrooms, golden boletes and witch's boletes can already be found. "But these are still more or less chance finds."
Mushrooms can also be collected at the moment. However, experts warn that particular caution is required with these mushrooms. "There is a sneaky mushroom, the carbolic mushroom", said Köhler. This mushroom, also known as poisonous boletus, causes severe gastrointestinal problems.
The district mushroom expert Edgar Fenzlein also advises having mushroom finds in particular checked by experts. Poisonous specimens can often be found in gardens or parks. By contrast, the popular meadow mushroom, a good edible mushroom, can be found in cow pastures.
Fenzlein reported that witch or golden boletes are also already sprouting in the Leipzig region. In August, you can also come across curly hairstreaks in pine forests. If the month is rainy, summer porcini mushrooms could also end up in your basket. Chanterelles, on the other hand, are on the decline according to his observations.
In general, there are large regional differences in mushrooms, said Fenzlein. Climate change is also making itself felt. In the Leipzig area, for example, hardly any morels can be found.
