Fluffy new arrival in gray from North Rhine-Westphalia: Dresden Zoo has another male koala. Kamaroo traveled across Germany: The almost four-year-old marsupial was born at Duisburg Zoo, as the zoo announced. He has now moved to Dresden to replace the male Mullaya, who was put to sleep in January due to a tumor on his jaw.
Kamaroo gets his own enclosure
The animal lives in its own enclosure right next to that of the females Janali and Eerin, as koala males are solitary animals. "However, they can hear, see and smell each other," said the zoo. "Koala males and females only meet for mating and then go their separate ways again."
In exchange, Dresden Zoo had previously sent one-and-a-half-year-old Kiri to Duisburg. Her keeper accompanied her acclimatization there in a group with several females and then brought Kamaroo back.
