Union Berlin's new signing Yorbe Vertessen could make his Bundesliga debut in the match against RB Leipzig. "He has completed two good training sessions and makes a good impression. You can see his quality, so he's a candidate for the squad on Sunday," reported assistant coach Marie-Louise Eta ahead of the game against the struggling fifth-placed team in the table on Sunday (5.30pm). Union completed the transfer of the striker from PSV Eindhoven on Thursday.
In the absence of head coach Nenad Bjelica, who has been suspended for a total of three matches, Eta will take over the communication duties at the Köpenickers. As in the game against Darmstadt, however, Bjelica's assistant Danijel Jumic will be the main coach on the bench. With a win against Leipzig, who are without a win in four games, Union want to further increase the gap to the relegation places.
Vertessen could help with this. The 23-year-old Belgian is expected to revitalize the harmless attack following the departures of attacking players Sheraldo Becker, Kevin Behrens and David Fofana. "Of course the departure hurts. We are sad and would have liked to see him continue in the Union Berlin jersey," said Eta about the transfer of crowd favorite Behrens to Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg.
