Four games without a goal against RB Leipzig: Union coach Baumgart is relying on his team's strengths and wants to end the negative streak. He can understand a fan campaign.

Union coach Steffen Baumgart can understand the traditional fan protest of the Berlin supporters at the start of the Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig. "I think everyone now knows what Union Berlin's attitude to Rasenball Leipzig is. I still think it's good, or I still think that everyone should be able to express themselves clearly or not express themselves at the moment," said Baumgart at the press conference of the Iron Ferns.

On Friday (20:30/Sky), the Union fans are also planning to remain silent for the first quarter of an hour of the Bundesliga match at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei against the club from Saxony. They want to express their dislike of the RB model. "I thought it was about soccer, but then it's also about things around it," said Baumgart.

The Union coach, however, wanted to focus on sporting matters ahead of the important match after four defeats. "Keeping up won't be enough, but it's about bringing the strengths we really have onto the pitch and we have a lot of them," said Baumgart.

The Irons go into their final home game of the year in twelfth place in the table, just four points clear of the relegation zone. "We have to do everything that's part of soccer better, we have to be clearer and we want to do it in such a way that we really do leave the pitch as winners here," said the 53-year-old.

Drought against Leipzig

Union have not won against RB in four games and have not scored a goal. The last two games against the in-form second-placed team in the table ended 0-0. These figures also match the Berliners' striker drought. Since the 4:3 win against Frankfurt in September, there has not been a goal scored by an attacker. Baumgart admitted that this statistic "gets on his nerves".

"I would also like to see it again, if you, I'll say, in the last two games, appear in the penalty area 20, 22 times, that you then also get the ball towards goal and into the goal," said the Union coach.
