The Bundesliga handball team of Thüringer HC suffered a setback in the group stage of the European League. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller lost 24:28 (12:13) at Romanian first-division club CS Minaur Baia Mare. Johanna Reichert was the best scorer with seven goals for the defending champions, who remain in third place in Group A with a record of two wins and two defeats.
Two weeks after the narrow 33:32 win in the first leg, the Thuringians began with great focus in defense and initially took a 4:2 lead (10th minute). The home side then developed more penetration at the back, whereas THC rarely managed to get its top scorer Reichert involved in the game. The Romanians led narrowly at the break.
The game remained fiercely contested after the break, with penalties repeatedly hampering the flow of play. The Thuringians refused to be shaken off, but also missed a possible turnaround thanks to strong saves by Baia Mare's goalkeeper Julija Dumanska. They only managed one more goal in the final six minutes, allowing the Romanians to pull away decisively.
