Bundesliga club RB Leipzig will also be relying on the new team spirit that has developed since the opening defeat at Bayern Munich in Saturday's match at VfL Wolfsburg (3.30 pm/Sky). "What helps a team is clarity. Clarity for every player, where will they be in the season, how will they start the season? We didn't have that for long stretches of the preparation," said coach Ole Werner. RB Leipzig's current squad has only been in place since the transfer deadline.
It helps if everyone has clarity now, if there is a hierarchy. "You can only give responsibility to players when they know that they are there and what role they are supposed to play," emphasized the RB coach.
Successful experiences help
The recent successes with three wins in a row are just as important. "You can't do without them. The dressing room can be as good as it is now, but you still need results and the feeling that you're developing on the pitch. These things have to come together and you have to keep them going, keep bringing them to life in every situation. We now have a group that can do that. I think we're on the right track," said Werner.
Former Wolfsburg man Schlager not yet fit for the game
In Wolfsburg, RB will still be without the long-term injured Kosta Nedeljkovic, Max Finkgräfe and Benjamin Henrichs. Xaver Schlager is also still unavailable following his muscle injury. "We'll see if he can be an option again against Dortmund," said Werner about the Austrian, who is so important for Leipzig's game.
