Rouven Schröder is a very popular discussion partner for Eugen Polanski at Borussia Mönchengladbach this week. After all, Gladbach's new head coach received valuable tips from his Head of Sports from Schröder's time as sports director at RB Leipzig. "He contributed his information profitably. When you get that from a person who has experienced the players, it's obviously a very important contact," said Polanski ahead of the clash with RB Leipzig at Borussia-Park on Friday (20:30/Sky).
After four consecutive wins against FC St. Pauli, Karlsruher SC, 1. FC Köln and 1. FC Heidenheim, Borussia will face an opponent of a completely different caliber in second-placed Leipzig. "They had a shake-up in the summer, did very well and have made a good start to the season. After our winning streak, this is a chance for us to test ourselves against the best," said Schröder.
"Just the right opponent"
Borussia's sporting director is not worried that anyone will take off after four wins in a row. "For every player who is already thinking about something else after four wins, now is exactly the right opponent to prove themselves," said Schröder.
In terms of personnel, Polanski has strong alternatives again, especially in attack. Robin Hack and Tim Kleindienst, who have been sidelined for some time recently, have been handed the wild card role for the time being following their injuries. "It's also clear with both players that there's still some work to do in the coming weeks," said Borussia's coach.
Statistically, Saxony are not one of Gladbach's favorite opponents. Leipzig have won 10 of their last 18 encounters, although Gladbach have won four of their last five games at Borussia-Park.
