The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has halted its losing streak in the German league. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore defeated the Rostock Seawolves 97:92 (52:51) in front of its home crowd. Ty Brewer was the Niners' best scorer in front of 4,696 spectators with 21 points, after they had previously lost four in a row.
After a slow start, the two teams staged an open exchange of blows. The Niners scored excellently from the three-point line, but had major problems in defense with Rostock's TJ Crockett Jr. who scored 14 points in the first quarter. As a result, the visitors pulled 39:33 ahead in the 17th minute, also thanks to their rebounding superiority, before Brewer got hot for the Niners and helped his team to a narrow half-time lead.
After the break, Rostock produced a 17:2 run to take a 70:60 lead (25'). Chemnitz appeared to be down and out, but fought its way back into the game with a lot of energy. In the final quarter, the visitors, who were heavily short of substitutes, lost their strength. The Niners kept up the pace, continued to shine from the three-point line with a total of 21 successful attempts and produced a 12:1 run to pull 88:77 ahead in the 35th minute. They then held their nerve in the hectic final spell.
