Ilaix Moriba and RB Leipzig are parting ways for good. The 22-year-old midfielder, who joined Leipzig from FC Barcelona in 2021 and was never really able to establish himself, is moving to Spanish first division club Celta Vigo, RB announced. Moriba, who was first loaned out to Valencia in January 2022, then later to Getafe CF and finally to Celta Vigo, still had a contract in Leipzig until the summer of 2026.
RB had paid €16 million for the Barca talent in 2021. However, the Guinea international simply failed to make a breakthrough in Leipzig. The central midfielder then became a regular at Celta Vigo last season. Vigo have now exercised a purchase option worth six million euros and signed Moriba permanently.
