Jamal Musiala's comeback is imminent. After a long period of suffering, the international footballer is set to be back in the FC Bayern Munich squad for the Bundesliga top match against RB Leipzig on Saturday (18:30/Sky). "When you get out of this dark tunnel, suddenly the little things are great," said coach Vincent Kompany. "What I always recommend to the lads coming back from injuries is that they never forget what that first feeling is like."
Kimmich also back against Leipzig
Musiala suffered a serious injury to his left leg six months ago at the Club World Cup in the USA in the quarter-final exit against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. Alongside Bayern, national coach Julian Nagelsmann is also hoping for a strong return from the international in the World Cup year. DFB captain Joshua Kimmich is also expected to return to the Bayern team against Leipzig. The Munich midfield boss had sat out a number of games due to persistent ankle problems.
Kimmich would be an option to fill the shortage on the right-hand side of the defense. With injuries to Konrad Laimer (torn muscle fibre) and Josip Stanisic (capsular ligament injury in right ankle) and the absence of Sacha Boey, who has been reported ill, Kompany is missing likely options.
Company on the shortage: Could have been worse
It would also be possible to use Raphaël Guerreiro or Tom Bischof there. Alternatively, Kompany could also deploy central defenders Jonathan Tah or Dayot Upamecano as an emergency solution.
"We have a lot of absentees at right-back, but we've already solved that in the past. A lot of other players can play there, at the start of the season we had a lot of absentees at left-back," said Kompany. "The boys will miss a few games, but it could have been worse."
