At this year's European Ice Swimming Championships in Molveno (Italy), our athlete Alisa
Fatum-Böker impressively demonstrated her international class. The title fights took place at a symbolic
location: Molveno lies between the venues of the currently running Winter Olympics in
Milano and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The European Championships were deliberately placed in this environment and parallel to the
Olympic events in order to present ice swimming as a possible future Olympic sport
and make it internationally visible.
The Olympic Games were ceremoniously opened on Friday, and just one day later - yesterday, Saturday -
the European Ice Swimming Championships came to a successful conclusion. The event set a strong sporting example right from the start
and acted as a calling card for the further development of
ice swimming at the highest international level.
Four times gold in the open class
Our athlete secured a total of four European championship titles:
- 100 m butterfly
- 250 m freestyle
- 500 m freestyle
- 1000 m freestyle
Her performance over several distances in a short space of time was particularly impressive.
There were often only short recovery periods between individual races - an enormous physical and mental
challenge in water temperatures of around 1-2 degrees. Despite this strain, Alisa Fatum-Böker managed
to organize her races tactically cleverly and win several times with confidence. Place with the 4×50 m freestyle mixed relay
A defining figure in ice swimming
Our athlete Alisa Fatum-Böker has been one of the absolute world leaders in ice swimming for years. With
international records, world championship titles and now several more European championship titles, she has made a significant mark on this still
young but spectacular extreme sport. As a special recognition, she was once again awarded the unofficial
title "Queen of the Ice".
Proud of our athlete
We as a club are incredibly proud of Alisa Fatum-Böker. These European Championships in Molveno will
remain in our memories for a long time to come - as a sporting highlight in the context of the ongoing Olympic Games in
Milano and Cortina d'Ampezzo and thanks to the exceptional performance of our athlete in the ice-cold
water.
