RB Leipzig have strengthened their squad with the addition of winger Suleman Sani, making their first new signing of the winter. The Bundesliga club will reportedly pay a transfer fee of five million euros to Slovakian first division club AS Trencin for the 19-year-old. The sum could rise due to bonus payments.
Sani's contract would have expired in the summer. The Nigerian had attracted interest from various foreign clubs and was reportedly being watched by Leverkusen and Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. Sani has signed a long-term contract with the Saxons until 2031. "The signing of Suleman is an anticipation for the summer, because the opportunity has now arisen to sign him permanently. With him, we will have an even broader and more variable position on the wings in the future," said RB Sport managing director Marcel Schäfer in a statement.
Three goals, two dismissals
Sani has made twelve league appearances for Trencin this season. He has scored three goals and contributed two assists. However, the teenager has also been sent off twice.
Leipzig are continuing to restructure their system with the transfer. Last summer, two similarly talented wingers were already acquired in the form of high-flyers Yan Diomande and Johan Bakayoko. Norwegian Antonio Nusa and Frenchman Tidiam Gomis are also available on the wing.
