Erzgebirge Aue extends with injured Schmid

Striker Maximilian Schmid moved from Cologne to Aue in the winter. Despite an injury, the 22-year-old is allowed to stay.

Erzgebirge Aue have extended the expiring contract with Maximilian Schmid. The 22-year-old, who is currently injured, will thus remain with the third division club, which is currently fighting to stay in the league, for at least another season. Schmid moved to Aue from 1. FC Köln in the winter and is currently missing the attacking player with a syndesmosis injury.

"We are happy to have convinced Maxi Schmid to stay. He has fitted in well as a player and as a guy. And he gives us flexibility in attack. After conservative treatment of his injury, we expect him to be back with the team in time for the 2025/26 pre-season at best," said sporting director Matthias Heidrich.

The attacker has made ten appearances in the 3rd division so far. He scored his only goal for Aue in the national cup. Schmid was successful there in the quarter-final in mid-March in a 2-0 win at Chemnitzer FC.
