The FC Bayern Munich basketball team are back on course to finish the main round of the German Basketball League in first place and go into the play-offs with home court advantage. With a 91:77 (46:45) victory over Niners Chemnitz, the league leaders ended their run of three consecutive league defeats.
Munich has now lost three games fewer than second-placed Alba Berlin. The third defeat in a row meant Chemnitz was not able to close the gap on the play-in places.
The Bayern team of Head Coach Svetislav Pesic was not able to get a grip on Chemnitz' three-pointers in defense at the start and trailed 26:28 after the first quarter. After an entertaining second quarter, Munich went in 46:45 in front at half-time after not conceding any points in the final three minutes.
In the middle of the third period, the home side produced a 10:0 run to take its highest lead of the game to date (60:53) and put Bayern ahead by double digits for the first time with seven minutes remaining.
In the final spell, the league leaders exploited Chemnitz's turnovers and did not let anything else get in their way. Six Munich players scored in double figures, with Xavier Rathan-Mayes adding 16 points.
