A draw in Braunschweig would have secured Dynamo Dresden's relegation early. But Eintracht took the big step in the relegation battle.

Dynamo Dresden missed out on an early rescue in the 2nd Bundesliga. On the penultimate matchday, the Saxons lost 2-1 (0-1) at relegation rivals Eintracht Braunschweig, dropping them to 13th place in the table behind 1. FC Magdeburg.

Dresden and Braunschweig are now looking forward to the results of Greuther Fürth and Fortuna Düsseldorf this Sunday. Should both lose, Dynamo would still have managed to avoid relegation before the final matchday. A point would have been needed at the Eintracht-Stadion to save the game on their own.

From the start, both teams fought an intense battle for every inch of the pitch. With the strong results of recent months behind them, Dynamo were the better and more confident team. Immediately after the 0:1, Braunschweig goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann made a brilliant save to prevent Vincent Vermeij from equalizing quickly (22').

However, Eintracht defended with great effort and passion, preventing Dresden from creating many more big chances. Jason Ceka (35) and Jakob Lemmer (82) were dangerous once more. After the missed penalty and the follow-up goal, Tony Menzel headed against the crossbar (90.+6).
