German handball champion SC Magdeburg won the tournament celebrating the 100th anniversary of the historic club EHV Aue. In the final, the team from Magdeburg defeated Bundesliga relegation team SC DHfK Leipzig 35–28 (16–14). Leipzig kept pace well in the first half, but Magdeburg pulled ahead after halftime.
Leipzig had reached the final on Friday evening with a 44–42 victory over Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt, while SCM had defeated host Aue from the 3rd Division 46–31.
As early as Tuesday, the SCM will face GWD Minden in a friendly at their home Getec Arena—on a newly renovated floor—before competing in the traditional Wartburg Cup in Eisenach starting Friday. There, the SCM will face league rivals from Lemgo, Eisenach, and Flensburg in its final tough test. The first official match will be the Super Cup against Cup champion Füchse Berlin on August 22 in Munich.
