Without DFB pro Ouédraogo: Leipzig Falls to Leeds United

Without its injured national team player Assan Ouédraogo, RB Leipzig lost its first high-profile preseason friendly. The Bundesliga side, which struggled to create scoring chances, fell to Premier League club Leeds United 0-2 in a two-halves, 60-minute friendly. 

Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the early going and Lukas Nmecha shortly before the final whistle scored the goals for the English side coached by Daniel Farke. RB coach Martin Demichelis made nearly a complete lineup change at halftime. Shortly before kickoff, the Saxon club announced that DFB international Ouédraogo would be sidelined for “a few weeks” due to a shoulder injury.

After three previous friendly wins against lower-division opponents, Leipzig faced a team from one of Europe’s top leagues for the first time this preseason. The match took place immediately after the conclusion of the training camp in Austria.

Competitive Season Opens in Two Weeks

In two weeks, RB will play its first competitive match. In the DFB Cup, the team led by national team player David Raum will face Eintracht Trier. A week later, RB will kick off the new Bundesliga season with a home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
