The chairman of the Saxon Association of General Practitioners criticizes the constant failures of the telematics infrastructure in doctors' practices and demands consequences from legislators.

The chairman of the Saxon Association of General Practitioners, Torben Ostendorf, has complained about technical problems in doctors' surgeries and called for consequences. "The constant failures of the telematics infrastructure have reached a level that endangers care," Ostendorf told the "Sächsische Zeitung" newspaper (Friday). "The legislator must now react and oblige the operators to operate the technology without disruption under threat of financial liability."

On Friday, the spring conference of the Association of General Practitioners starts in Leipzig. One of the topics to be discussed will be the problems associated with the digitalization of the healthcare system. Since January 1, 2024, for example, all practices have been obliged to issue prescriptions electronically as standard.

"These systems are so vulnerable that they tend to be time-consuming in everyday practice," said Ostendorf. "Repeated insertion of the health card, numerous attempts over several minutes and the associated system crashes are a burden on staff and patient care."
