The number of respiratory infections in Saxony remains at a high level. In the third calendar week of 2024, cases of influenza in particular were registered, their number was significantly higher than the number of cases of coronavirus and RSV, according to the latest report published on Friday by the State Investigation Institute (LUA) 2024. According to the report, 273 deaths in connection with a Sars-CoV-2 infection have now been reported since the beginning of October 2023. These were people between the ages of 39 and 99. In addition, four women and six men between the ages of 30 and 86 were reported to have died as a result of influenza - as well as a 78-year-old with an RSV infection.
According to the LUA, the number of influenza cases reported each week has doubled to 1652 compared to the previous week. It is now occurring equally in all age groups, with comparatively fewer cases registered in adolescents and young adults. At 62 percent, cases of RSV infections, which mainly affect infants and young children, have once again increased significantly.
