More than 58,000 people in Saxony would be affected by the politically discussed abolition of care grade 1. The state government must therefore lobby the federal government to maintain the care degree, demanded the VdK Saxony social association. According to the Federal Ministry of Health, a federal and state working group is also looking at care grades and their orientation. The first interim results are therefore expected in October.
Social association: maintaining independence would be sacrificed
The idea of abolishing care grade 1 is a consideration of the social cold, said state association president Horst Wehner. "The positive effect of the care reform with the preservation of independence in old age is to be sacrificed to the financial crisis of long-term care insurance? This would affect one in six people in need of care in Saxony alone. That is shameful and completely lacking in solidarity."
According to the VdK, there is no care allowance for care level 1, but there are grants for home modifications to improve accessibility, the relief amount for neighborhood assistance or money for a home emergency call. The declared aim is to maintain independence. Care level 1 should enable people to continue living in their own home and not be dependent on inpatient care, it was said.
According to a "Bild" report, the black-red coalition is discussing the possible abolition of care level 1. The background to this is the financial problems in long-term care insurance. Leading politicians from the CDU/CSU and SPD have confirmed that such a reduction is being considered, according to the report.
