Dresden Cancer Center Receives 3.8 Million Euros in Funding

The Dresden site will continue to receive funding from German Cancer Aid as a leading oncology center. Over the next four years, 3.8 million euros will be provided, according to an announcement by the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden.

The National Center for Tumor Diseases in Dresden, located at the university hospital, has been one of 14 national centers of excellence since 2007. According to the information provided, these centers are reviewed every four years by an international committee. Factors such as research results and findings, clinical trials, and patient care structures play a role in this process. 

Funding for Research and Treatment Programs

This continued funding is both a mark of appreciation and a mandate, and reflects the work of a large, interdisciplinary team, said Uwe Platzbecker, Chief Medical Officer at the Dresden University Hospital. According to the information provided, the funding will be used to implement research projects, exercise therapy programs, and patient-centered initiatives. Last year, more than 22,000 cancer patients were treated.

The Central German Cancer Center, with locations in Leipzig and Jena, also received renewed funding.
