Despite the summer vacations, the blood donation situation in Saxony is currently stable. This was announced by the Blood Donation Service North-East of the German Red Cross (DRK) on request. Only for the blood groups zero negative and A negative is there more demand than donors are available.
Around 2,500 blood donations per week are currently being made, according to the DRK. This is enough to cover the needs of the clinics in the region. The exceptions were the hot days at the end of June and beginning of July. A significant drop in blood donations was recorded here. However, the current cooler weather is easing the situation again.
Last week, Leipzig University Hospital announced that fewer people than usual were donating blood, partly due to the vacation and vacation season. In the summer months in particular, the need for blood reserves increases due to increased outdoor activities and the associated increased risk of accidents.
