The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) Saxony is once again awarding places to study medicine at the University of Pécs in Hungary. High school graduates have until January 31st to apply for one of the funded places on the German-language human medicine course, the KV announced in Dresden on Friday. It is also possible to study with an A-level average of up to 2.6.

The model project "Studying in Europe - Future in Saxony" is financed annually by the KV Saxony and the health insurance companies as well as the Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs. Participants enter into a sponsorship with a Saxon GP practice and, after studying in Hungary, complete their further training as a specialist in general medicine in Saxony. They will then work outside the metropolitan regions of Dresden and Leipzig for at least five years.

The model project was launched in 2013 to tackle the shortage of rural doctors.
