Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius is coming to Thuringia for the meeting of the East German Minister Presidents. This was announced by the Thuringian State Chancellery in Erfurt. According to dpa information, the heads of government of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Berlin and Brandenburg as well as the Minister President of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will also discuss the turnaround and defense structures.
Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer had recently called for the arms industry in Saxony to be expanded in order to strengthen the state's economy. The CDU politician called for targeted support from the federal government for the East and proposed an East German component in the awarding of contracts.
The Eastern Minister Presidents' Conference will take place next Thursday at Ettersburg Castle near Weimar. Thuringia currently holds the presidency. In addition to Pistorius, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and Elisabeth Kaiser (SPD), the Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Europe, are also expected to attend.
