Faced with the first frosty nights, the winter road clearance service in Dresden is ready for the first operations of the season. A total of 43 emergency vehicles are available in the municipal service to clear and grit Dresden's roads, as the state capital announced. With around 720 kilometers, the winter road maintenance service is responsible for a good half of the entire road network in fixed route plans. In addition, there are 162,000 square meters of cycle paths and a further 234,000 square meters of sidewalks, steps and crossings.
The network is divided into different urgency categories. Federal, state and district roads, the public transport network and the Elbe bridges have the highest priority for clearing. Around 5.49 million euros are available in the budget for this winter season.
The city explicitly points out the obligations of residents. For example, sidewalks and stairs adjacent to properties must be cleared of snow and icicles must be removed from roofs and gutters.
