Asterix is coming to Saxony - and with it a comprehensive renovation for the Belantis theme park near Leipzig. They want to "give the park a new future", said Filip De Witte, Managing Director of the new operator Compagnie des Alpes, at the presentation of the plans. The French company wants to build the first Asterix park outside of France in Saxony. But what does this mean for visitors in concrete terms?
First step: New "Idefix' Adventureland"
The new themed area "Idefix' Adventureland" - the first visible sign of the conversion - is set to open in spring 2026. The park wants to continue to focus clearly on families, it said. De Witte said that many guests wanted attractions for younger children in particular. Child-friendly rides, a large themed playground and a separate area where visitors can meet Asterix and Obelix are now to be created in the middle of the park.
Next expansion stage: family roller coaster
The operators have announced a modern family roller coaster for 2027, which will be aimed more at older children and young people. In the years that follow, further themed areas are to be gradually transformed into Asterix worlds. The final renaming to "Asterix Park Deutschland" is planned for 2030/31.
How much is being invested
Compagnie des Alpes estimates that it will invest around six million euros in the coming year. In total, the company plans to invest around 100 million euros in the coming years. However, the sum could still increase as the master plan continues to be developed, as De Witte said.
Bus line to run all year round in future
The operators also see significant room for improvement in terms of public transport connections. Until now, the park has mainly been easily accessible by car and by bus line 105 - but only during the season. In future, according to the operators, it should run all year round. Discussions are already underway with the region.
Target: 900,000 visitors a year
Belantis was opened in 2003 and is located in the south of Leipzig, not far from the highway and between Berlin and Dresden. The park welcomes several hundred thousand guests every year. However, comparatively little has been invested in recent years, it was said.
Compagnie des Alpes is one of the largest amusement park operators in Europe. The new Belantis operator is focusing on growth. In terms of the number of Asterix comics sold, Germany is the second-largest market directly behind France - and also the second-largest European market for theme parks. The potential of the location is huge.
In the long term, the park could reach up to 900,000 visitors a year, it said. By comparison, Germany's largest theme park, Europapark Rust, has around six million visitors per year.
