The German Tourism Day is to take place in Leipzig in 2026. In Saarbrücken, Saarland officially handed over the baton for the organization of the largest specialist conference in German tourism to the Free State of Saxony, as announced by the Saxon Ministry of Tourism. An alliance of Saxon tourism stakeholders - including the Saxony State Tourism Association - is taking over the organization.
Saxony's Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU) described the choice of Leipzig as the host city as an important sign: "The German Tourism Day is the largest specialist conference in German tourism and attracts several hundred guests every year." It is a strong signal that the Tourism Day is coming to Leipzig next year.
Klepsch referred to the development of tourism in the Free State: "Saxony has developed into a strong tourism state over the last 35 years." Around eight million guests book 20 million overnight stays every year. Tourism generates 9.3 billion euros in gross revenue and around 190,000 people live from it.
The German Tourism Association (DTV) is in charge of organizing the conference. In addition to lectures, panel discussions and specialist forums, the program also includes excursions during which the host city presents its special tourist features.
