Carp, rainbow trout, tench: More than 2,000 tons of edible fish were produced in Saxony last year. This puts the state well ahead of the rest of Germany.

Fish production in Saxony's aquaculture farms increased significantly again last year - despite falling fish production in Germany. According to the State Statistical Office, the 151 farms in the Free State produced 2,096 tons of edible fish. Compared to the previous year, this represents an increase of twelve percent.

In a national comparison, Saxony is one of the largest fish producers. After Bavaria, Lower Saxony and Baden-Württemberg, the Free State is in fourth place and accounts for 13 percent of edible fish production in Germany. According to the figures, the majority of fish produced in Saxony were carp, followed by rainbow trout and grass carp. Across Germany, fish production fell by one percent last year.
