The snow is calling: the Ore Mountains are currently covered in wintery white and offer many winter sports activities. These include speedy bobsleigh rides as well as challenging ski tours.

From alpine and cross-country skiing to tobogganing, ski hiking and top-class sport: the Ore Mountains currently offer a wide range of winter sports. In addition to numerous ski slopes, for example on the Fichtelberg, Hirschkopf and Adlerfelsen, there is a large network of cross-country ski trails with panoramic, forest and even floodlit routes, as the Erzgebirge Tourism Association informs. If you are looking for a challenge, you can take on the Stoneman Miriquidi Snow in four daily stages covering 130 kilometers from Oberwiesenthal to Schöneck and back. There are 2,000 meters of altitude to conquer.

Offering for ski tourers

There are also numerous opportunities for skiing away from groomed slopes - for beginners and experienced ski tourers alike. A special challenge awaits at the weekend: the Skitouren-Everesting am Fichtelberg. The aim is to conquer the height of Mount Everest - the highest mountain in the world at 8,848 meters - on touring skis within 24 hours. "The route involves repeated ascents on the Fichtelberg and demands a high level of physical fitness, endurance and mental strength from the participants," it says.

Winter sports fans will also soon have the opportunity to experience top-class sport live. For example, at the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup or the Junior World Championships in luge. Both take place in Altenberg. Rides in the four-man bobsleigh will also be offered for guests in the ice track there. Under the aegis of experienced bobsleigh pilots, they reportedly whizz through the ice channel, including eleven steep bends, at over 100 km/h.
