More barking than initially expected: During an inspection at the border with Poland, officials make a discovery that also alerts the veterinary office.

Federal police officers have stopped a van with ten unsecured dogs without the necessary documents in the hold at the border with Poland before entering the country. According to a police statement, the officers checked the van at the Hagenwerder border crossing on Tuesday.

The 62-year-old driver, a 63-year-old woman and a small dog were sitting in the driver's compartment. However, there was clearly more barking than could have been caused by the small animal. When the officers opened the hold, "they were presented with an unexpected sight", it said.

Only tied up with leashes

Without any security, ten other dogs were only tied to the inside wall with leashes and collars. "It is unthinkable what consequences this could have had in the event of heavy braking or an accident," the Federal Police continued.

In addition, the animals did not have the necessary entry documents. The veterinary office notified by the officers initiated administrative offense proceedings on suspicion of a violation of the Animal Welfare Act.
