Lusatia wants to score points as the first climate-neutral model region. The application has now been submitted.

Lusatia wants to become the first climate-neutral model region, a so-called Net Zero Valley, in Europe. State Secretary Thomas Kralinski (Saxony) and State Secretary Friederike Haase (Brandenburg) presented the application in Brussels, the Saxon Ministry of Economic Affairs announced.

The EU's Net Zero Valley initiative aims to make the economy more competitive, reduce dependence on technology and achieve climate and energy targets. The aim is to create a particularly attractive environment in the valleys for the establishment of production facilities for so-called clean technologies.

Lusatia intends to focus primarily on the areas of battery and storage technologies, hydrogen and electricity grid technologies as well as energy efficiency and sector coupling technologies in its valley.

Saxony and Brandenburg have started the environmental assessments required for the designation. This process will continue over the summer.
