The Saxon Ministry of Infrastructure is funding model projects for adapting to climate change in cities and municipalities. Municipalities are to be supported with a maximum of 250,000 euros per project to "further develop blue and green infrastructure and keep cities liveable for their citizens, even in the face of climate change", said Regina Kraushaar, Minister of State for Infrastructure and Regional Development.
According to the Ministry, this includes measures that significantly reduce heat stress on roads, paths and squares. "City centers are heating up more and more frequently, heavy rainfall events as a contrast to heat waves lead to local flooding and mudslides - these events put a strain on cities and their citizens," said the CDU politician.
The aim is to promote projects that can be transferred as easily as possible and at the same time have a broad impact. From November to January next year, local authorities have time to submit their project ideas. Around one million euros in state funding is available. Four to five model projects are to be supported.
