VW is cutting back production in Zwickau and Dresden from today due to weak demand. The car manufacturer has announced that the production lines at the plants will come to a standstill for a week. The measure was triggered by the continued weak sales of the Group's electric vehicles.
Production cuts have also been decided in Lower Saxony. In Osnabrück, there will be at least one day of closure every week until the end of the year. A one-week break is also planned in October. The production lines in Emden will also be shut down for several days.
Electric cars are produced in Zwickau and Emden, where the slump in demand is causing the Group problems. Osnabrück is suffering from weak sales figures for the convertibles built there.
Special shifts in Wolfsburg
The situation is completely different at the main plant in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, where special shifts are planned for almost every weekend until Christmas. The reason for this is the high demand for the Golf, Tiguan and Tayron combustion engines built there.
