The Volkswagen plant in Zwickau remains broader-based than previously planned. According to a Group-wide agreement from the previous year, the factory was to transfer its ID models and the Cupra Born to other locations and only produce the Audi Q4 e-tron in future. The management has now announced at a works meeting that the Cupra Born will continue to be built exclusively in Zwickau. The ID.3 will also continue to be produced in Saxony. The background to this is that Volkswagen has reorganized the allocation of its two largest German production sites on the basis of updated volume planning.
This means that the Saxon site with around 8,500 employees will remain a multi-brand plant. To date, six different models - exclusively e-cars - have been produced there. The 35th anniversary of Volkswagen Saxony was celebrated here on Friday. The Zwickau car factory is "a beacon in eastern Germany" and Volkswagen's most productive plant in Germany, said Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter (SPD) at a ceremony attended by around 4,000 VW employees.
