VW has been focusing on e-cars since 2013 and has reached a round figure in production. New models should help to further accelerate the transition to electromobility.

The car manufacturer Volkswagen has reached the two million mark for deliveries of e-cars. The ID.3 anniversary vehicle was built in Zwickau and handed over to a customer at the Transparent Factory in Dresden, the company announced.

Volkswagen has expanded its range of fully electric vehicles in recent years. It began in 2013 with the introduction of the e-Up, followed later by the e-Golf and the ID models. The Zwickau site in Saxony has been producing exclusively e-cars for several years - including for the Audi and Cupra brands.

ID.Polo to provide a further boost

According to VW, the ID.4 and ID.3 models have accounted for the largest share of the two million e-cars sold. The car manufacturer is hoping that the new ID.Polo, which is due to go on sale this year, will provide a further boost to electromobility. "Our goal is to bring attractive, affordable electric vehicles that are suitable for everyday use to the high-volume small car segment and thus initiate the next growth step in the transformation," explained Board Member for Sales Martin Sander.
