About 270 employees of Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering in Chemnitz and Hohenstein-Ernstthal (Zwickau district) are worried about their jobs. This Thursday, they want to demonstrate with their families and colleagues from suppliers at the Chemnitz Neumarkt in order to preserve the sites, according to the IG Metall trade union.
Car manufacturers are holding back on investments
At the two sites, systems for battery assembly in the automotive industry are being developed and built and commissioning is being supported. This has recently included a plant for BMW Leipzig, for example. However, car manufacturers are currently holding back on investments. According to IG Metall, there are alternatives in the field of battery storage for renewable energies.
"Highly qualified engineers are developing future technologies here in the Chemnitz region that we will need in the future," said the first authorized representative of IG Metall Chemnitz, Eddie Kruppa. "We are calling on the Supervisory Board of Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering to work together to find solutions to preserve the site."
