Numerous new Riesling and Scheurebe vines will now grow vigorously over the next three years. When the first sparkling wine from the new plantings will be available.

The Saxon state winery Schloss Wackerbarth has planted a total of 14,300 new vines on its land in the Elbe wine village of Diesbar-Seußlitz (Meißen district). Over the next 40 years, the 12,000 young Riesling and 2,300 Scheurebe plants will provide the grapes for the wine from which the state winery produces its sparkling wine using traditional bottle fermentation.

In the next three years, the main focus will now be on "establishing a robust and healthy vine", according to the state winery. The first harvest from the newly planted vines could therefore be in 2029 at the earliest, with the first sparkling wine expected in 2032 after fermentation and maturation.

The new plants on the Seußlitzer Heinrichsburg vineyard replaced vines that were planted immediately after reunification, according to press spokesman Martin Junge. The planting on an area of around 3.5 hectares was carried out by a GPS-controlled machine in just two days, he said.

In total, the Saxon state winery Schloss Wackerbarth has 90 hectares of vineyards in Diesbar-Seußlitz, Weinböhla and on the wine terraces at the winery's headquarters in Radebeul.
