In the eastern German federal states, travelers have access to free Wi-Fi at only a few Deutsche Bahn stations compared to other federal states. This is according to figures published on Tuesday by the pro-rail interest group Allianz pro Schiene. According to the figures, there were 8 stations with free internet in Saxony in 2023, which accounts for two percent of the stations in the federal state. In Saxony-Anhalt there were 6 stations (2 percent of stations) and in Thuringia 4 stations (1 percent).
According to Allianz Pro Schiene, Hesse had the most DB stations with free WiFi in 2023. According to the data, there were 299 stations. Schleswig-Holstein was in second place with 101 stations and Hamburg in third place with 52 stations. Bringing up the rear were Bremen and Saarland with one station each.
Hamburg had the highest proportion of stations with Wi-Fi (90 percent), while Thuringia, Brandenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland had the lowest with 1 percent each. The national average was 11 percent.
