The eastern German textile industry is calling on the German government to ensure lower energy prices. The industrial electricity price currently under discussion completely bypasses medium-sized companies, the Association of the North-East German Textile and Clothing Industry (vti) announced on Friday. The enterprises of the industry are completely predominantly medium-size enterprises.
"All options for a stabilization of the energy market must be consulted", demanded the vti. This also includes putting nuclear power plants back into operation, it said. The energy tax must also be eliminated or significantly reduced. If energy prices do not fall, there is a danger that companies will give up.
The vti represents spinning mills, weaving mills, embroideries and other textile companies in the eastern German states and Berlin. According to the association, the industry has about 16,000 employees, including 12,000 in Saxony alone and 2500 in Thuringia.
