The employees of the Chemnitz Congress Hotel continue to fight for a future for the striking building. They are now casting the line for a new operator themselves. Will one of them bite?

In the struggle for a future for the Chemnitz Congress Hotel, employees are once again taking the initiative. Under the title "Cult hotel with dream team seeks new operator with heart and vision", they have sent application documents to 15 hotel operating companies, according to the Food, Beverages and Catering Union. The documents refer to the high occupancy rate last year and the impressive view from the restaurant on the 26th floor.

"Together, we have put a lot of heart and soul into this place and made sure that even prominent guests like Katarina Witt feel at home here," said the employees in their appeal for an investor. "That's why we are certain: the Congress Hotel still has a lot of potential - and we are ready to realize it."

Hotel operations suspended since the end of January

The previous operator ceased hotel operations in the building at the end of January, although no exact reasons were given. At the beginning of the month, employees and citizens demonstrated with a chain of lights to keep the hotel open. At just under 100 meters, the striking building near the Karl Marx Monument is the tallest inhabited building in Chemnitz. It was opened in 1974 as the Interhotel.
