Supported by prominent athletes such as Jan Ullrich and Hanka Kupfernagel, more than 200 cyclists will start the last stage of the European Peace Ride today. It leads from Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic over around 145 kilometers and more than 2,300 meters of altitude to Chemnitz, where the peloton will be received in the afternoon.
Family and music festival at the finish line
The European Peace Ride is a project of Chemnitz as the European Capital of Culture 2025 in the style of the former international peace ride. It aims to build a bridge between culture and sport and set an example for peaceful coexistence in Europe. At the finish line, the Chemnitz Ice Sports Center, visitors can look forward to a family and music festival.
Some of the cyclists have already been pedalling since the beginning of the week. They started in Nova Gorica (Slovenia), the second European Capital of Culture 2025. The main peloton started on Thursday in Passau, Bavaria.
