This year’s “Kosmos” Festival features around 250 events. The concerts with free admission are the main draws for visitors. Here’s what’s on the program this Saturday.

Tens of thousands of visitors are once again expected in downtown Chemnitz this Saturday for the “Kosmos” Festival. Numerous musicians will be performing concerts with free admission. Performers include the Dresden rap group 01099, the Chemnitz indie-pop band Power Plush, the pop band OK Kid, and singer Alexander Marcus.

In addition, the festival offers a wide variety of activities and topics covering different areas of society. Climate activist Luisa Neubauer and author and activist Arne Semsrott are also expected to attend. The organizers report more than 250 program items. These include projects, workshops, and panel discussions: ranging from a participatory circus to the parent workshop “Empowering Children Against Inhuman Opinions” to inclusive sports activities.

Its origins trace back to the #wirsindmehr concert

“Kosmos” traces its origins to the #wirsindmehr concert, which was organized in response to riots by far-right extremists in the summer of 2018. This year marks its fifth edition. According to the organizers, it attracted about 70,000 people two years ago and as many as 115,000 during the 2025 Capital of Culture year. Unlike usual, however, it spanned three days.

Due to the large number of visitors expected at the festival, the Central Saxony Transportation Authority reports that additional trains and buses will run at night—for example, to Leipzig, Dresden, and Zwickau, as well as Döbeln, Stollberg, and Limbach-Oberfrohna.
