They have resurfaced after decades: Watercolors by Carl Graeb show Muskauer Park in the middle of the 19th century. There is now an exhibition in the New Palace.

In dozens of watercolors, the 19th century painter Carl Graeb captured views of the Fürst Pückler Park in Bad Muskau. Under the title "Poetry of Light", the works can now be seen in an exhibition in the New Palace.

The series comprises 74 large-format works showing the park, the castle with interior views and other buildings, the park foundation announced. "The watercolors document the park almost comprehensively around the middle of the 19th century and are therefore a unique historical document for Muskau research."

The artworks were reportedly created between 1855 and around 1860. They were later considered lost and were only rediscovered in 2018. The Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau Foundation purchased the series in 2021 with the support of several foundations, the Friends' Association and private donors. The exhibition is on display until August 16 and is open daily from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.

It was created by Hermann Fürst von Pückler-Muskau in 1815 and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004. According to the German Unesco Commission, the park is an "exceptional example of a European landscape park, a pioneering example of a masterfully designed landscape".
