Para-triathlete Martin Schulz moves up from third to second place at the Paralympics in Paris. The reason is a doping offense committed by a competitor.

Para triathlete Martin Schulz can now celebrate his silver medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. The 36-year-old from SC DHfK Leipzig had originally won bronze in the sprint race on September 2, 2024. However, the second-placed Brazilian Ronan Nunes Cordeiro has now been disqualified due to a doping offense, as announced by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). As a result, the two-time Paralympic champion from Saxony has moved up to second place.

Cordeiro had tested positive for the anabolic androgenic steroid 19-norandrosterone during an in-competition test. This is banned at all times, as a result of which he was provisionally suspended in October 2024. The 29-year-old appealed against the IPC's charges. However, Cordeiro's appeal failed at a hearing on January 28, 2026, and the IPC's independent anti-doping tribunal confirmed the decision.

Cordeiro's result in Paris was subsequently annulled. The World Triathlon Federation is now deciding on further consequences such as a ban.
