The HOPE Gala in Dresden shows once again what is possible when heart, commitment and solidarity come together. Viola Klein, initiator of the gala, puts it in a nutshell: "The Ossis can do it too".
When the HOPE Gala was launched almost two decades ago, the focus was primarily on children who urgently needed medical help against HIV. Today, many of them have grown older, and so young people and their education have consequently become more of a focus. The HOPE Cape Town project remains holistic: health, support and future opportunities go hand in hand.
Despite the major funding cuts that are threatening many aid projects around the world, HOPE is in a stable position. It is independent of government funding and does not have to make any cutbacks. "We still have three female doctors in Cape Town and don't have to make anyone redundant," emphasizes Viola Klein. The fact that this is the case is also due to the special strength that comes from Dresden and the new federal states.
The willingness to donate is great and support has grown steadily. "The Ossis can do it too," says Viola Klein with a smile, referring to the drive, courage and will to achieve great things. Year after year, the HOPE Gala shows that people in the East can not only celebrate, but also give. And while music, glitter and emotions come together in the Schauspielhaus, a piece of hope is carried from Dresden into the world.
