Imagine you could take a look behind the doors of Leipzig's most exciting laboratories, institutes and research facilities for an evening - together with your children! That's exactly what awaits you on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the 9th Long Night of Science in Leipzig. From 16:00 to 23:00, 55 locations will be opening their doors and inviting you to a free adventure full of experiments, hands-on activities and exciting insights.
What makes the Long Night of Science so special

- Free entryt & kno registration: You can decide spontaneously which stations you would like to visit.
- Over 140 institutions present almost 500 events - from hands-on experiments to fascinating lectures.
- Family-friendly: Many events are aimed specifically at children and young people and start as early as 4 pm.
- Exclusive insights: Experience places that are otherwise only reserved for research - a real highlight for curious kids and parents thirsty for knowledge!
This year's program: highlights for families
This year's program is more colourful and diverse than ever before. Here are some highlights that you should definitely not miss:
1. hands-on activities for children & teenagers
- Experiment, be amazed, do it yourself: Children can research, build and try things out for themselves at many stations. Whether controlling robots, isolating DNA or conducting mini-experiments - science comes to life here!
- "Leipzig MALT" competition: Creative young artists between the ages of 3 and 14 have until May 31 to submit their works on the topic of "The future of our planet". The best pictures will be exhibited and awarded prizes at Campus Augustusplatz - a great experience for the whole family!
2nd hands-on science
- Experience research live: Whether climate change, energy transition or artificial intelligence - Leipzig's science offers answers to the big questions of our time. Many of the topics on offer are designed to be understandable and exciting for children.
- Smart City Lab & Neues Rathaus: Exciting facts and interactive stations await you here to show you what our city of the future could look like.
3. practical planning aids
- Individual evening planning: With the "My night" function, you can put together your own personal program.
- New "LNdW Leipzig" app: It's even easier with the new app developed by HTWK Leipzig. So you always have all events, locations and your individual plan at your fingertips. Download it from Playstore and Apple App Store.
- City map & orientation: A city map with all locations is available here for download and at many locations in Leipzig.
4. Convenient & environmentally friendly arrival
- Ride Nextbike for free: With a code on the website you can hire bikes for free and cycle comfortably from station to station.
- Special bus route: A special LVB bus runs between Augustusplatz and Wissenschaftspark Permoserstraße between 6 pm and 11 pm - perfect for families with children!
5th premiere: Leipzig Science Award
For the first time, the Leipzig Science Award will be presented as part of the Long Night - be there live when outstanding researchers are honored for their work!
