Saxony has stopped all transports of livestock to the Middle East for the time being. The reason for this is the current fighting in the region. "The welfare of the animals during transportation and, not least, the health of the accompanying employees cannot be guaranteed at present," explained Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (SPD), explaining her government's decision. For this reason, the sale of livestock to countries affected by the war and to neighboring countries must be suspended for the time being.
According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, 231 breeding cattle were transported from Saxony to the Middle East last year, and 600 cattle in 2024. There have been no transports so far this year.
