From protecting the oceans to banning disposable e-cigarettes, from gypsum recycling to the risks of water supply: The federal and state environment ministers have set themselves many topics for their spring meeting in Leipzig. "The protection of our livelihoods, responsible use of resources and adaptation to climate change are the central tasks of modern environmental policy," explained the chairman, Saxony's Environment Minister Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch (CDU), with a view to the meeting. He said he wanted to work with his colleagues to develop joint solutions and concrete steps.
Saxony is currently chairing the Conference of Environment Ministers. It is meeting in Leipzig from May 6 to 8. With regard to the venue, von Breitenbuch referred to the changes in the lignite regions. The water balance plays a key role in this. "It is the basis for quality of life, economic development and social cohesion," explained the Minister. "Sustainable water management requires joint action, targeted investment and innovative strategies."
