Fewer women in Saxony are choosing to have an abortion. What is behind this decline, and what role do minors play in it?

The number of abortions in Saxony declined last year. A total of 5,250 women residing in Saxony reported having an abortion, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. In 2024, the figure was 5,385 women.

The average age of women who had an abortion was 30. Four percent of the reported abortions involved minors. Almost all abortions (97 percent) were performed at the pregnant woman’s request; the rest were performed for medical reasons. Two percent of women from the Free State of Saxony traveled to another federal state to have an abortion.
